Austral Chile 2024

Discover Green riders

Discover the journey we undertook along 1,000 km of Chile’s Carretera Austral with the aim of highlighting the importance of sustainable energy and Grenergy’s commitment to the country and the development of its communities

About the Project

These achievements endorse our leadership in the market and our determination to continue growing in Chile, continue driving the energy transition, and improving people’s quality of life.

This involves the organization of an expedition of the company’s senior executives to travel 1,000 km of the Carretera Austral, where we have identified various projects to help communities near the road’s route.

The journey was made by electric bikes and electric support and supply vans. 5 stages along the Carretera Austral, passing through multiple communities and natural environments, and paying maximum attention to leaving a 0 carbon footprint.

Our Journey

Chaitén > Puyuhuapi

Start of the expedition through one of the southernmost routes in the world.

Start of the expedition through the Carretera Austral heading south, beginning a journey in electric bicycles and support electric vehicles. In this first section, the landscape appears with the vestiges of the landslide that Villa Santa Lucia suffered in 2017, where the vegetation has not fully recovered. However, towards the south, beautiful rivers and lush vegetation begin to predominate.

Promoting sustainable tourism.

This stage went from Puyuhuapi to Queulat, within the Coyhaique commune, which spans over 7,000 km². Nestled between the Simpson and Coyhaique river valleys, the city has over 60,000 inhabitants and a population density of 6.86 people per km². The riders covered 90 km and inaugurated a fast-charging station at Patagonia House (Coyhaique), aiming to support the charging network along the Carretera Austral.

Electrifying the road sustainably.

The route continues from Cerro Castillo and Puerto Tranquilo to Patagonia National Park. There lies the Marble Cathedral, a unique natural spectacle on Lake General Carrera. As the journey continues, the confluence of the Baker River and the Neff River appears, running parallel to the road for several kilometers. At the end of the route, the riders inaugurate Grenergy’s new public charging point at the Explora Hotel. Additionally, during this stage, they sign an agreement with the Bicentennial High School Austral Lord Cochrane to fund various educational projects and sustainability workshops.

Collaborative Project

Villa O’Higgins

The Villa O’Higgins collaborative project consists of five scholarships for students for the 2024 academic year and a financial donation to improve the conditions of their greenhouse. Grenergy’s collaboration with the municipality is the result of our commitment to supporting community development.

Río Ibáñez

Grenergy has donated a total of around €5,000 to the community to promote education in the area. This initiative allows 45 children from three educational centers to benefit from this project, which aims to raise ecological awareness through outdoor environmental education experiences under the slogan “know to protect.”

Cochrane

Together with the Bicentennial High School Austral Lord Cochrane, several activities have been carried out with the goal of teaching students to protect, conserve, and preserve ecosystems and biodiversity. These activities have included the implementation of workshops focused on recycling, robotics, energy efficiency, and sustainable development, which will take place during the 2024 school year.
